- 1). Put on goggles if the pool still has water in it. However, if the entire drain system needs to be worked on, it's best to drain the pool of water.
- 2). Grab a screwdriver and dive down to the pool's drain cover. Most drain covers have two flat-head screws, although some models may have Phillips-head screws. It may be necessary to dive down to determine the required screwdriver beforehand.
- 3). Turn the screws counterclockwise to remove them. Hold the screws in your hand or place them in the pockets of your swimming gear.
- 4). Grasp the edges of the drain cover with your hands. Turn the cover counterclockwise until you feel a small click. As the name implies, it only requires a ¼ turn to unlock it.
- 5). Pull up on the drain cover to pull it away from the drain.
