Tips For Sending A Great Get Well Card

When your thoughts are with someone who is going through a difficult situation sending a get well card helps you to express your empathy, the level of your friendship, and lets them know that others are thinking of them, but finding the perfect words can sometimes squash your best intentions. Below are five steps to get you going in the right direction with your well wishes.

1. Just do it. The first rule of get well writing is that no matter how rough of an attempt you make, it is most important to make that attempt. A pre-written card or even an e-card with just your signature is better than nothing at all. First and foremost is to make the commitment to send your friend something.

2. It is better late than never. Even if the main event has passed and you missed sending a get well card, it is not too late to send one now. Often the recipient will be inundated with get well wishes at the onset but most recoveries are a drawn out process. Get well cards that appear at later times in the process are just as appreciated as those at the beginning.

3. Choose a real card. A get well e-card is fine for immediacy but be sure to follow it up with something tangible. A physical card makes a more meaningful statement of your real sentiments and well wishes and allows the recipient to hold onto or display your card to be reminded of your thoughtfulness.

4. Add a personal note with them in mind. Make sure that you are reflecting the recipient's personality and situation and not your own in your note. This is not the time to impose your beliefs, attitude, humor or opinions if you know them to be different from the recipient's.

5. Accept help with your words. There are many spots on the Internet that list get well quotes, sayings, poems and messages. Use these to help you find your own voice.
