- 1). Remove the trackball by holding the BlackBerry in one hand and the screwdriver in the other hand. Take the screwdriver and carefully insert the flat edge within a small gap surrounding the silver ring around the trackball. Gently pull up the screwdriver until it raises the trackball assembly. Repeat the process of inserting the screwdriver on all four sides of the trackball ring and lifting upwards to free the trackball assembly. The trackball assembly should lift above the previous inset.
- 2). Take the plastic tweezers and gently pull one side of the trackball assembly up until the entire assembly pops out. Set the assembly aside.
- 3). Cut a 1/2 inch of tape and stick it on the end of the tweezers. If the tape is clear, color the smooth side of the tape with a colored Sharpie. The color of the tape determines the color of the BlackBerry 8330 pearl. Carefully place the colored tape with the sticky side down on top of the illuminating light inside of the trackball assembly.
- 4). Push the tape down towards the bottom of the phone with the tweezers to prevent the tape from moving. Pick up the trackball with the tweezers. Place it in the hole with the sensor facing downward. Replace the ring by ensuring the edge without a clasp faces the top of the device. Gently push the ring until it clicks into place.
- 5). Press any button key on the device to illuminate the light behind the trackball. The color of the pearl should now turn whatever color the tape was. Ensure the trackball is set properly by moving the ball around from the left to the right as well as up and down. Browse through all of the menus on the device to make sure the trackball functionality is correct.
