I¡¯m Bobbi Linkemer on behalf of expertvillage.com, and I¡¯d like to invite you to visit my website at writeanonfictionbook.com. I think one of the most common mistakes I see is people who write in the passive voice, which means something is happening to something. An example of passive writing will be something like ¡°he was hit by a car.¡± So something happen to him, but more active will be to say the driver of the car hit him or the car hit him, so something does something to something. It¡¯s good old subject and predicate that you learned in fourth grade. Most people don¡¯t write that way; they write convoluted sentences and things are always happening to something. One of the jobs of an editor is to make it more dynamic and more active so that you have lots of verbs.
