Server backup - Methods

Every network boasts of a host and guest terminals which are connected to it. The server acts as the head of the network which deals with making the provision of services. It also connects other workstations and terminals to the network. The main job of the server is to maintain and manage entire workstations and terminals that are present in the network. Other terminals and workstations are considered to be clients in the network which are controlled by the server. It is the job of the administrator to handle and maintain the server. The admin is responsible for the proper functioning of the network.

In order to ensure the protection of data, it is crucial for the admin of a respective network to come up with various plans and strategies to implement data protection and prevention methods. The data residing on the machines and the terminals of the network could be protected with the aid of server backup. For implementing backup procedures and methodologies it is crucial for a server to retain access to all connected terminals and workstations in the network. If creation of backup of the data is needed to be done on any workstation or terminal, then the respective workstation or terminal needs to be connected to the server first in the given network. The use of server is then done by the administrator for creating backups.

The backup network terminals and workstations present on the network generally connect periodically to the server backup enabling their presence to be felt on a particular list. This list basically holds the information of all the workstations and terminals that require its data to be backed up in the network. Those terminals or workstations whose data needs to be backed up are manifested on the list of the server backup in a periodic manner. The job of the server backup is to create a list of data which is stored on workstations or computers connected with the server. The backup image assists the administrator on the server to choose any workstation or terminal whose files and folders needs to be backed up from the list which is shown on the server with the aid of server backup. There are advanced plug-ins available for backup which assist in saving files and directories on tape drives or compact storage devices or any other secondary storage devices. The backup creation is generally initialized by the administrator.
