How to Travel From Florence to Rome

    Travel by InterCity Train

    • 1). Go to the Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station (the main train station in Florence).

    • 2). Purchase your InterCity train ticket from the ticket window. Tickets can also be purchased online at Trenitalia (see Resources below).

    • 3). Validate your ticket and then board your train. The Intercity provides travel from Florence to Rome daily. Expect your travel time to last anywhere from 1 ½ to 3 ½ hours depending on your itinerary.

    Travel by Euro Rail

    • 1). Purchase your Euro Rail ticket online or at participating vendors (see Resources below for ticketing locations).

    • 2). Go the Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station and find your terminal. In most cases, Euro Rail departs from Firenze Santa Maria Novella Station; however, your train may also depart from Firenze Campo di Marte Station.

    • 3). Check your gate number to determine from which gate your train will depart.

    • 4). Verify that you have arrived at Roma Termini (terminal) before exiting the train. Roma Termini is the main train station of Rome.

    Travel by plane

    • 1). Purchase your ticket. Alitalia is the domestic route network for domestic travel. Direct flights are available from Florence to Rome daily.

    • 2). Take a coach or first class flight from the Peretola Airport, Florence Airport or Amerigo Vespucci Airport, which is located close to Florence. The airport is technically located in the territory of Sesto Fiorentino.

    • 3). Arrive in Fiumicino, Rome's domestic airport. You will most likely arrive in Terminal A for domestic flights within Italy.
