There is a ton of information available on line about largemouth bass fishing techniques. However, one of the most important and forgotten techniques that is often not discussed is what is the best knot to use? There are hundreds of knots that can be used to tie your lure onto the end of your line, but which one is the best? You can have the best line and the best lure in the world, however, if you do not tie your lure on correctly you could end up loosing it to that trophy bass you have been waiting for, or one of those unseen snags that are commonly encountered when you are out fishing.
In my opinion, the palomar knot is the best knot to use when tying on your favorite bass fishing lure. It is one of the simplest knots to tie and it is one of the strongest knots that can be used. It can be used on virtually any line that is available on the market today. Ask any professional bass fisherman what knot they use most of the time and I would be willing to bet that most of them would say that they use the palomar knot. In fact, I was recently at a bass fishing seminar where knots were a topic of discussion. The speaker was a well known professional bass fisherman. What he said was "you should only use one knot when fishing in a bass tournament." Do you know what that one knot was that he recommended? Yep, you guessed it, the palomar knot.
Learn to tie the palomar knot. Not only will it save you time, but it will save you a lot of frustration and, perhaps, a lost trophy fish or expensive lure.
