5 Traits of a Good Gym Partner

A Good Gym Partner should:

1. Keep it Real

If your gym partner catches you slacking off, he/she should call you out on it. The workout should begin intense and remain intense, after all, that is the only way to make gains and get results. A good gym partner should take you out of your comfort zone. What I mean by taking you out of your comfort zone, is encouraging you to try new exercises. By doing an exercise that you never felt comfortable doing before, it confuses your muscles, it builds your confidence, and it makes you feel a sense of accomplishment.

With that confidence now boiling inside of you, everytime you go to the gym, you'll be more open to do things that you've always been afraid of. This confidence will also transfer to your everyday life, and you will be more equipped to embrace the challenges that life may throw you way.

2. Be a Good Spotter

A good spotter knows when to help

and knows when to allow you to push through that last rep.

When you have 375lbs  above your head, your spotter has to be 100% focused. There can't be no joking  around and daydreaming going on, this is something serious. One slip of the bar and it can cause you your life, no joke!

Bad spotting and a lack of focus are two major reasons why injuries occur in the gym.  Your gym partner should make sure that your using correct form, critiquing you as you push through your set. He/she should be ready to grab that bar in a split second.

3. Goes to the gym (even when you can't make it)

I know it may seem like the whole point of having a gym partner is so that you both can always  share the gift of fitness together. The fact  of the matter is, it is almost impossible to find a a gym partner with the same schedule as yours.

Something can always occur, but that shouldn't stop your partner from going to the gym. By going to the gym alone, it shows how serious they are, it also shows true dedication and will only help to motivate you and get you back in there.

4. Should share the same fitness goals as you

This is one of the most important things to look for in a gym partner. Whether it's weight loss, making strength gains, toning your body, or any other fitness goals your trying to achieve. Your gym partner should share those goals with you, or have similar goals at the least. With you both trying to achieve the same goal, it makes the journey that much easier. You have someone to talk to that has the same mindset, and you can celebrate your success together.

Having the same goals will help to keep you on the right track, it  keeps your mindset positive, and it keeps you motivated.

5. Should be fun to workout with

Working out should be fun and not looked at as a boring job you don't want to do. If you have to force yourself to go to the gym, you might as well quit going. If your not prepared to give 100% effort, stay home becuase your definitely not helping yourself or your partner by going to gym and dragging through the workout.

Having a fun gym partner gives you something to look forward to, especially after a stressful at work. Some jokes here and there will make the workout go by quicker and make it more enjoyable.

Working out alone is always fine and is actually necessary, but working out with a partner brings something different to the table. You can share different exercises with each other, give tips, and share pass experiences.
