- 1). Cut ten 6-foot-long beams out of the 2-by-4s.
- 2). Create a floor frame by nailing four of the beams together in the shape of a square.
- 3). Cut 2-inch-by-8-inch planks to cover the floor frame but do not nail them down.
- 4). Arrange the planks where they will be placed. Then, draw a circle where the hole will be cut.
- 5). Use the jigsaw to cut out the whole in the planks.
- 6). Nail the floor planks to the frame.
- 7). Nail four beams to the floor frame, with one in each corner of the frame.
- 8). Nail the final two beams in Step 7 at the tops of the corner beams. You should now have a completed floor, with two wall frames, each consisting of a pair of vertical beams connected at the top of the beams by a third beam.
- 9). Position your shanty so that your hole is over the hole in the ice you will be using, and drape animal furs over the frame to completely enclose it.
