How to Do a Wheelie on a 125 Dirt Bike

    • 1). Get a rolling start. It is easier to get the front wheel up and balanced when you are already in a balanced position.

    • 2). Hold the clutch and bring up the engine rpm (revolutions per minute). With a weaker bike, it is important to bring up the rpm to allow the engine to transfer more energy to the back tire.

    • 3). Time the clutch release. When you release the clutch is important to getting the front wheel up into the air. You want to release the clutch in the higher rpm range, somewhere around 8,000 to 10,000 rpm. Don't be afraid to release the clutch quickly. This will help get a "pop" in the drivetrain that will help bring the front tire up.

    • 4). Hold the wheelie by shifting. This may sound ridiculous to do while holding a wheelie, but with a little practice it will become second nature. It's very difficult to hold the wheel up when you are riding with a high rpm because of the immediate response in the back tire. Not controlling the rpm could cause you to over-rotate or slam your front tire down too hard.

    • 5). Bring the wheel down by letting off the throttle. Slowly release the throttle but never come off the throttle completely. Also, try not to use the brake. Both of these can cause the front wheel to come down too fast and off balance.
