While the torch of the statue was being displayed in New York City, the gigantic head of the Statue of Liberty was prominently displayed in a park in Paris.
Following the successful display of the torch in America, Bartholdi returned to France and began work on the statue's head. He wanted to display that at an upcoming world's fair in Paris.
In 1878 the massive head of the statue was put on display at the Paris International Exhibition.
People at the fair could pay an admission fee to climb inside the statue's head and look out the windows in the crown.
