- Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant which blocks nerve impulses sent from the injured body part to the brain, thus preventing pain sensations.
- Common cyclobenzaprine side effects include blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth or throat, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, gas and muscle weakness.
- Because of the drowsiness side effect, patients may not be able to drive or do other activities requiring alertness while taking cyclobenzaprine.
- Other drugs worsen the drowsiness effect of cyclobenzaprine. These include alcohol, anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications, cold and allergy medications, narcotics, sleeping pills and tranquilizers.
- Rarely, serious complications can result from taking cyclobenzaprine. Serious side effects include heart attack or stroke, allergic reactions, seizures, liver damage, hallucinations and depression. An overdose can be fatal.
