What to Do When There is Water Underneath the Refrigerator

Home appliances will cause you trouble from time to time but calling a repairman isn't always necessary as you can learn how to do some basic fixtures yourself.
One common problem with a refrigerator is water gathering underneath it.
This is only a symptom, to save the situation you must find the cause.
There are two situations that can lead to that puddle occurring in your kitchen: leaky drip pan or leaky icemaker supply line.
The drip pan can usually be found under the refrigerator, on top of the condenser coils.
First you should remove the front grill panel.
You might need a flashlight to help you find the drip pan and sometimes browsing the owner's manual will be necessary.
After finding it, remove the drip pan, clean it in the sink and poor warm water in it.
If it doesn't leak, then the drip pan was not the problem.
If it does leak, the solution is to replace it.
Go to the appliance store for a new one or check the manufacturer's website for parts ordering service.
The second possible cause is a leak along the length of the supply line serving the icemaker.
Turn the fridge off and unplug it.
Dry the supply tubing that takes water to the icemaker and look for drips.
Dripping could happen either along the length of the tubing or at the spot where it connects to the refrigerator.
Disconnect the line if it is leaking.
For that you will need an adjustable wrench.
Disconnect the line where it connects to the fridge and at the spot where the connection is made with the supply line.
Prior to disconnecting the line, turn the water off at the shutoff valve for this line.
You will find the supply stop at the sink or in your basement where the supply pipe joins the water line below the refrigerator.
After disconnecting the supply line, take it to the store and buy a replacement of the same kind.
Finally, reconnect the line using the same tool you needed for disconnecting it, an adjustable wrench.
Before starting to fix the refrigerator yourself you should check if the product is still in warranty and if it is, make sure your actions will not void it.
