Are You Going to Build Your Blogging Business on Sand?

A few years ago, when blogging was just recognized as a business and marketing tool for a business beyond personal diary, soon after that appeared programs that promised how to make money without lifting a finger by blogging.
Many big-name marketers joined the bandwagon and made a fortune on it.
If you recall blog and ping, that literally increase the amount of splogs (spam blogs) and junk pages online and in the search engine's database.
That method was so effective to get any new site indexed, sometimes in 24-48 hours.
Soon after that, if you create doorway or directory pages, you can get some long tail traffic.
Combining this with AdSense can bring you money almost immediately after it.
Some people who aggressively involved in this methodology were able to earn five- or even six-figure income monthly from this method alone.
But a lot of them went broke soon thereafter.
I remember one specific marketer who established his business around that model and create a quite an impressive list of products in their product funnel, from e-book to group coaching and private mentoring.
I always believed that blog and ping will not last.
It was exploiting a hole in search engine algorithm, which put too much weight on blogs back then.
Soon after that many bloggers, including me, chimed in and talk about his unethical method, causing more damages than it helped the Internet.
Of course, he didn't care, saying that what he did was a valid model.
He thought people complained because they were not ready for the cutting-edge technology.
Nowadays, blog and ping is still a viable method to get into search engines but not with spam pages.
Even if you link to your new site from the blog, search engines don't immediately index the linked page.
Once they do, they know how to rank the pages correctly.
Google is going to be smarter each and every day.
And truth to be told, with so many resources there, although they are going to figure this out.
You can't outsmart Google.
Work with them.
You'll build a sustainable business this way.
Well, although this approach takes more work, it is well worth it.
Think long term and win this search engine game.
No matter what, there will always be people who are exploiting a hole in anything to make money.
The question is, do you want to build your business around something so fragile? Do you build your house on sand? I hope not because you can do better.
