- 1). Consider the time of year you'll be visiting Bonita Springs. Hurricane season ends November 30, so plan to visit in December, January or February. Its tropical climate is warm, not hot like in the summer, and less humid. Evenings are pleasant and cool. Pack a few sweaters. Nighttime temperatures can dip into the 40s.

A popular attraction is the Naples-Fort Myers Greyhound Track. You can wager on dog races or visit the Everglades Wonder Gardens. It opened as a refuge in 1936 for injured animals.

There are a variety of accommodations in Bonita Springs from hotels to resorts and bed & breakfasts, and it always pays to shop around. There is also an excellent national and international culinary scene with a wide variety of food choices.
- 4). You can walk for miles along the white-sand, dune-lined beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, stopping at quaint shops and boutiques, galleries and cafes. Canals that wind through the neighborhoods connect to the bays and Gulf of Mexico offering a variety of fun experiences. Spend some time boating and fishing, swimming. As the day winds down, watch the sun set in a blaze of purple and orange.
- 5). Don’t miss a chance to collect some fabulous shells. Hundreds of different types of shells wash up on the shores. Visit the popular Barefoot Beach Preserve, famous for great shelling, natural beauty and also a variety of species of animals. While there, keep your eyes open for dolphins and manatees. Another great option: Carl E. Johnson State Park. Located on Lover's Key, this 712-acre park features a 2 mile-long beach, 5 miles of multi-use hiking trails, and is also perfect for kayaking.
