- Snowshoe is located in West Virginia, and is a popular vacation destination for people who live in West Virginia and in surrounding states. The closest airport to the resort is in Washington D.C. Driving to the resort is not difficult, but it is important to check road conditions for the mountains, especially in winter when ice and snow can cause dangerous situations.
- Snowshoe is one of the premier destinations in the southeast for snowboarding and skiing. The mountain has 60 slopes and trails, with 41 percent being rated easy, 36 percent more difficult and 23 percent very difficult. The mountain also has 12 slopes open for night skiing and is serviced by a total of 14 lift systems. In addition to downhill slopes, the mountain has terrain parks for trick skiers and snowboarders.
Other activities during the winter months include snowmobiling, snowcat tours, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing. - Just as popular in the summer as in the winter, Snowshoe mountain has a wide variety of activities during the warmer months that include mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and golf. There are also numerous food and music festivals such as the "Fire on the Mountain Chili Cookoff" and "Taste of the Mountains Wine and Jazz Fest."
- Snowshoe Resort offers a large variety of accommodations, including hotels, condos, cabins, private town homes and ski chalets. The accommodations are spread across the Mountain Base, North Mountain, Silver Creek, South Mountain, the Backcountry Hut, Village Central and West Ridge Homes.
- According to Snowshoe Resort's website, development of the resort was started in 1973 by Dr. Thomas Brigham. Three runs were built in 1974, including Skidder, Ballhooter and Cupp Run. The resort acquired Silver Creek Resort in 1992 and since then has become a modern and advanced ski resort. The resort was purchased by Intrawest Corporation in 1995.
