The other day, I was in Starbucks I was talking to an individual who happens to be a homosexual, anyway we got to talking and he mentioned he was "not straight" but I guess he knew I was from my stereotype.
After I bought my Frappachino, I sat down and he was the table next to me, and he made some kind of remark when he read something in the newspaper about Prop 8 - "proposition eight" is the gay marriage thing out in California.
Indeed, I could see he was somewhat upset at the whole fiasco, and a little bitter, perhaps even angry at society, well not everyone, only those who voted to put gay marriage on hold.
Unfortunately, that happens to be some 50% percent of the voting public.
He said he was upset, and that it wasn't right.
I told him I "wasn't sure why you guys want to get married, because most marriages end of the divorce, and it is just gonna cost you a lot of money in the future.
" I also told him that I am sure over time those laws will all change, not just in CA, but in all of the US, and throughout the world too.
He laughed and said; it's not just that he wants to be able to get married someday to another guy, but rather he didn't think it was fair that other people could get married but since he liked men, he couldn't.
I told him that yes I understood that point, and did understand why he was trying to fight for his rights, but I also told him maybe he's better off - maybe it is a blessing in disguise.
Indeed, I then explained how marriage counselors and divorce lawyers couldn't wait until the law was changed, because they couldn't wait for the onslaught of divorce filings by gay couples.
I asked him what kind of work he was in and he said he was a law student.
I said that makes sense, you want to go for it and become a divorce lawyer specializing in gay marriages, because I am quite certain that soon - the law will allow gay marriages, and all this will change.
In fact, I told him that I wouldn't be surprised that within the next decade marriage was legal for homosexuals in all 50 states.
I even told him that we will someday have a gay president.
He agreed, but said he was impatient, and didn't want to be thought of as a second rate citizen.
And he wanted to get married soon, maybe out of state and then come back to live in CA, until the law changes.
Indeed, I just bet that the divorce lawyers are going to have a field day with all these gay marriages in the future.
It's going to open up a whole new industry.
And that means more jobs for America! I guess? Please consider all this.
