Give a Man a Fish or Teach a Man to Loot?

The Christians have an interesting saying they often recite? Give a man a fish or teach man to fish.
Meaning if you give a man a fish he will be back again tomorrow for another fish, teach a man to fish and he will provide for himself a lifetime.
We can certainly help those in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, but are we sending the right message? Let us look at this more logically.
First the people were warned to evacuate the approaching Category V Hurricane, which had already killed 7 people in Florida as a Category I Hurricane.
The weather on the TV showed that Katrina was a huge Hurricane, which nearly filled the entire Gulf of Mexico with its circulation of weather.
It was headed towards the Gulf Coast and everyone in the Nation watched.
1.
3 Million people lived in New Orleans and 1.
1 million did as they were told and left the city.
Some could not leave and were told to go to the Superdome, 30,000 did that.
Others who had no transportation were told that the police would pick them up and take them there.
Two hundred thousand did not evacuate the area.
Now we are told to send in money to these folks in the fish bowl because they have no water or food? This maybe true, but many of them have brand new HDTVs with Large Plasma Screens instead? They seem to be able to take care of themselves.
I looked down at my shoes today and was reminded that I need a new pair.
Yet, I am watching on TV people stealing the shoes I wanted to buy.
Many from New Orleans have ancestors going back a hundred and fifty years or more of life in the bayou, fishing crawdads and catfish; then cooking them with species.
One thing is for sure they know how to fish and nothing could be farther from the truth as we saw on our TV sets as young women went fishing in department stores with the windows broken out for a free new wardrobe and leather jacket to make sure they don't freeze to death in the warm 100 degree heat and 90 degree water.
Oh Suzanna, I won't cry for you, it rained all day the night you should have left.
And we know there are fish in that water too, plenty for them to eat.
We even saw a three foot shark on a home video swimming in the New Orleans soup bowl, obviously there are fish in there now that is why the shark is there.
The fact is there are people who did the right thing and left and came back to absolutely nothing, with their houses flatten their jobs gone and lives devastated.
Let's help them and forget those who have been so busy fishing (stealing) for themselves.
Think on this.
