New York Jets Mailbag: 2015 Rookie Minicamp
The New York Jets 2015 rookie class stepped foot on the field for the first time last week as part of the team's annual rookie minicamp. Along with a crop of tryout players and undrafted free agents, the unit went through three non-contact practices.

Q: Any standouts from UFAs? Jonathan Rumph?
From- @Exiledathome
Hughes: Rumph certainly was one of the players that caught my eye, but then again, when you're 6-5 and weigh in at nearly 220 pounds, you're hard to miss. Rumph did show the ability to get deep, attacked the football and displayed some solid, soft hands. He's got nice, long strides, too, which allow him to separate from defenders on deeper routes.
With that being said, the thing I did notice from Rumph is he's not the quickest when it comes to getting off the line. His feet are a little slower than most and he's a little clunky when chopping. He reminds me a bit of former Giants receiver Ramses Barden. Big guy, nice size, nice hands.. just curious if he'll have enough speed to get off the line. Personally, I believe he's worth a training camp invite, but the Jets are stacked at receiver. I thought cornerback Greg Henderson looked good, too.
Q: How has Lorenzo Mauldin looked?
From- @Mavericknyc
Hughes: It's very tough to tell with linebackers and defensive linemen because there are no pads, they're going up against offensive linemen that won't have jobs in a week and there's no contact allowed. With that being said, Mauldin looked like he moved pretty well and flashed a few times against the run. He didn't do anything poorly, nor anything that stood out as exceptionally well, either.
Q: Any sleeper you see making the final roster?
From- @CGeorgewise78
Hughes: As a tryout player? No. It's way too early to tell. I can say that I wouldn't be surprised if last year's UDFA Dashaun Phillips stole one of the final cornerback positions if the Jets decide to keep six. He moved well, had a pick-six of Bryce Petty and seemed to be anticipating the receiver's routes pretty well. I liked what I saw from him, and if he can prove valuable on special teams, he may just find himself on the roster.
Q: How did Devin Smith look on his routes?
From- @RobMacNYJETS
Hughes: I kept an eye on him quite a bit during the two practices open to the media. It was tough to tell on team drills, as all the receivers were working in-and-out. With that being said, during individuals, he seemed to move pretty fluidly with all routes he was asked to run. He wasn't clunky, didn't trip over himself or look off. To be honest, almost everything he did he looked very natural at.
He wasn't exactly running routes next to Brandon Marshall or Eric Decker, but of the receivers there, I'd say he stood out as someone who looked the most comfortable in each drill.
Q: What players stood out at minicamp?
From- @robng88
Hughes: I thought receiver Quincy Enunwa looked good. Caught everything thrown his way, ran solid routes and showed good adjustment on a few. Leonard Williams stood out, too, as he was all over the field (As he should have been, these were players no where near his skill level). Wideouts Jonathan Rumph and Devin Smith looked good. Liked what I saw from defensive backs Greg Henderson and Dashaun Phillips.
