A Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) is required to operate any single vehicle that weighs more than 26,001 pounds . A variety of tests needs to be passed in order to obtain a CDL B license. These tests include a knowledge exam, a driving skills test and an eye examination. - Acuity is the sharpness of an individual's vision, usually tested with an eye chart. Federal guidelines require an acuity of 20/40 in each eye with or without correction for an unrestricted Class B license. Standards for a CDL restricted license vary among states.
- Class B CDL drivers must be able to distinguish between red, green and amber colors. This test is used to determine if the driver is color blind and if he can read various traffic signals.
- The field of vision test measures the peripheral vision of an applicant. The minimum requirement is a visual field of at least 70 degrees in each eye.
