Saving the Philippine Environment with Biosphere Technology

For many years, solid wastes have been one of the major problems in the Philippines. The inefficient waste management in the country brings implications affecting the environment, and public health. And due to improper wastes disposal drainages clog up which causes floods in various areas. According to DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) records about 6,700 tons of garbage are being generated in the national capital region alone every day but only approximately 10% are being recycled or composted. The remaining 90% goes straight to dump sites, rivers, streets and backyards. Now imagine the almost 770 million people in the Philippines generating wastes every day, by the next ten years there wouldn't be enough landfills for accumulated wastes. And that would end the Philippine environment if not taken care of.

Whether we accept it or not, we need reliable solution for the country's waste problems. Definitely, LANDFILL IS NOT THE ANSWER. Aside from the fact that landfills exhaust lands that can be used for development, these landfills also take along problems in the communities including contamination of groundwater and health problems.

Biosphere Technology: The ultimate solution

One of the solutions which local governments should consider in ending these environmental problems is the use of green technologies such as biosphere facilities. Good thing in City of San Fernando, Pampanga, they have already started this through a biosphere technology project agreement with Spectrum Blue Steel Corporation (SBSC). City Mayor Oscar "Oca" Rodriguez told Sunstar Pampanga during an interview that they are probably the most happy with this development and this may be the final solution to the global problem on wastes. He further said that this is the very reason why they had embraced the technology and are going for the biosphere project.

The biosphere technology project has been used by many countries in North America, US, and Europe and it has been proven effective in solving problems on wastes. It is a gasification process that uses wastes to derive clean and green energy.  Some of the advantages of biosphere technology include; (a) No toxic leftovers which cause leachate issues and its process uses limited-oxygen environment which limits atmospheric emissions; (b) Solves both energy and solid wastes problem; (c) Helps in maintaining our groundwater free from harmful elements by superseding landfills; (d) It creates electricity and other by products through destroying solid wastes in a cost effective manner.
