As a college student, it is vital that you have good study habits. The meaning of "good" being dependent on your goals, is a matter of devising a system that fits you and just as importantly adapting when you need to. In other words, studying well is something one learns by doing, as with most other things in life that will eventually make a person successful. Attitude and disposition, of course, also count.
Fix Times
Like any full-time job, college can be stressful and demanding, so allow yourself time to relax and unwind before starting your studies. Allocate a time so you know how long you have for the unwinding.
Choose an appropriate place to study
A great study place is important for you to achieve the best results. You should study in a place with few distractions. Ensure your study place is designated specifically for studies. This will prevent the need for you to be moved or interrupted.
An ideal study area must:
Be comfortable, with sufficient space for the required materials.Have good lighting.Be away from distractions such as television.Stocked with the materials you will need, to avoid a lot of unnecessary wandering around the house looking for materials.
Agenda
Before you start with your studies, spend a few minutes thinking of what you have to do so that you can fix a time schedule. Sometimes, you may benefit greatly by setting timeframes for particular tasks.
Make it interesting
Make sure you know what you are learning and what your study is focused on. This way you can think of appropriate questions and even add to the answers. For example, if you are learning about one particular country, you can get a book or a DVD or download some information about that country which can make your learning more interesting. If you are serious about your college studies, you will not hesitate to seek assistance or inform others when you are unable to concentrate.
Follow-up
Ask others for their feedback on your study habits and how you are doing in college. By doing so, you can determine the areas that you need assistance and you will also be in a position to determine how well or bad you are doing in your studies.
Schedule a Break
Very few people are able to study for hours on end without a break, so allow yourself ten minutes or so between assignments or tasks to unwind. You can unwind during this time. Taking a walk round the block is a great way to unwind. If you need to talk, take someone along with you. It is vital that you take a day and/or night off from your studies to relax and enjoy yourself.
Avoid Getting Stressed
Stress and anger is never beneficial for study or homework. Although it is a part of college life that can cause a great deal of angst, do your best to stay calm and ensure your studies do not become a source of stress for you or your family.
