How to Fix a Seat Belt Retractor on a 1999 Yukon

    • 1). Check that the seat belt isn't bunched or twisted inside the retractor. Pull the belt all the way out to untangle.

    • 2). Clean the plastic retractor using a clean cloth and a few drops of mild soap. Dirt and dust can buildup inside the retractor mechanism causing the seatbelt to become stuck.

    • 3). Release the seat belt. The seat belt retracts into the retractor.

    • 4). Pull the seat belt out of the retractor and set the belt tongue into the belt buckle. The retractor locks the seat belt in place.

    • 5). Take your vehicle into an authorized Yukon dealership and mechanic. If your Yukon has been in an accident or there is a blown fuse in the retractors, the seatbelt will not properly retract and your safety is at risk.
