    Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

    • The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is an excellent train ride for kids. The train starts its journey in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and travels one hour through the picturesque north Georgia mountains to McCaysville, Georgia. Riders then disembark and have time to shop, eat and enjoy the outdoors in McCaysville before boarding the train for the ride back to Blue Ridge. The railway offers special events throughout the year, such as the Easter Eggs-press, Wild River Adventures and The Santa Express. Children under 2 years ride free. As of March 2011, tickets for children age 2 to 12 are $22, while adults fares are $27. Prices can vary depending on the season and special event taking place.

    Great Smoky Mountain Railroad

    • The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad travels throughout the mountains of western North Carolina. All trains leave from Bryson City, NC. The railroad offers two excursions to choose from. The Nantahala Gorge Excursion is a four-and-a-half-hour trip. The train travels 44 miles to Nantahala Gorge. Families then have a one-hour layover for sightseeing before boarding the train for the trip back. This excursion is available only during certain months of the year. The other excursion is The Tuskegee River Excursion. This four-hour trip goes from Bryson City to Dillsboro. The one-and-a-half-hour layover in Dillsboro can be used to shop, eat or explore. During the summer months, the Lone Ranger makes an appearance on the train to save everyone from bandits. Prices vary depending on the season.

    Grand Canyon Railway

    • The Grand Canyon Railway offers an unforgettable trip. This historic train travels from Williams, Arizona, to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and back. The trip takes 2 hours and 15 minutes each way. During the months of November and December the railway offers tickets for The Polar Express. Travelers will enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while listening to the classic story on their way to the "North Pole." To ensure a spot on the Polar Express, book early as seats sell out quickly. The Grand Canyon Railway also offers Spring Break packages for every budget.

    Day Out with Thomas

    • Thomas the Tank Engine is a classic children's story character that is highly popular with preschoolers. Each year, Thomas tours the United States and Canada, offering a "Day Out with Thomas." Preschoolers and their famliies can ride aboard a train pulled by Thomas, have their pictures taken with Thomas's friends and enjoy petting zoos, magic shows or pony rides.
