How to Plant Purple Leaf Turnip Greens

    • 1). Plant turnip greens as early in the spring as you can work the soil. Plant fall turnips 100 days before the first frost date in your region.

    • 2). Dig rows 1/2 inch deep and remove any weeds from the garden bed. Space the rows 1 to 2 feet apart.

    • 3). Plant three to 20 seeds in each row and cover the seeds with soil.

    • 4). Water the soil until it's moist. Keep the soil moist until the turnip greens germinate.

    • 5). Thin the purple-leafed turnips when they are 2 to 4 inches tall. Space them out to 4 inches apart.
