5 Essential Photographic Equipment For A Kruger Park Safari

The market is flooded with gadgets and accessories for your camera. It tends to get confusing and you end up not buying anything or the wrong equipment. We made a list of equipment you need for those amazing safari trips, we especially focused on the Kruger Park safari trip we had a few months ago and what we experienced.

1.Storage Devices
Storage devices are essential, especially when using a digital camera. Normally you get one SD card for you camera but we suggest you have at least a few at hand. Its infuriating when youre halfway through the trip (or camping in the wild) when you run out of space on your memory card.

2. Bean bag
Bean bags are a cheap and easy way to balance your camera when you need something stable. You literally take out your bran bag and prop it over the windowsill or any object you can find and it stops blurry images in their tracks. Remember any image under a 60 shutter speed tends to be shaky (unless you have unshakable hands).

3. Cable Release
A cable release can be a blessing when it comes to slow shutter speeds in low light conditions. It prevents blurry images, which often occur when pressing down on the button even when you have a tripod. Weve had a marvellous time with our cable release when we shot a few star trails in the Kruger park, the stars are amazing there!

4. Flash extender
Tour guides stop a few hundred meters from a watering hole and even though you might have the required lens youll still have bad light. If the tour guide allows it you should utilize your flash extender. These powerful flashes greatly enhance your flash output and will give you sufficient light when shooting at night.

5. Protect your equipment
Depending on where you go you will confront different elements, some which can damage your equipment if they come in contact with it. After a day in the wild you should clean your equipment, dust it off and use blowers to clear out the dust (especially on the lenses and inside on the mirror). If its a rainy season you should cover your camera as much as possible, preferably with plastics.

6.Filters
My favourite filter is the polariser, it reduces glare and it makes greens greener. It also protects the lens form scratches so be sure to get any kind of lens. The polarisers tends to kick everything down with at least two apertures so if you prefer use a skylight filter.
