- In some instances, users -- especially new users -- may have difficulty installing the Sony W55's battery pack. As the camera's instruction manual notes, the proper installation technique requires that you open the "Battery/Memory Stick Duo" cover and insert the battery pack using the tip of the battery pack to push down on the camera's battery eject lever. Apart from installation, another battery-pack related problem that can occur with the W55 is that the camera's battery indicator will display an incorrect amount of remaining battery-pack power. There are several ways you can potentially remedy this problem. Examples include keeping the camera out of extremely hot or extremely cold environments, fully discharging and then charging the battery pack and replacing the battery pack, which could be dead -- or permanently drained -- with a new one.
- The two main power problems that can occur with the Sony W55 are that the camera will not power on or that the camera will power down suddenly and unexpectedly. If the camera will not power on, possible remedies include using a compatible battery back, installing the battery pack properly, charging the battery pack and replacing a dead battery pack. If the camera powers down suddenly, without giving an indication that the battery pack is low, remedies can include replacing a dead battery pack or simply turning the camera back on. As the instruction manual mentions, if you leave the W55 idle for approximately three minutes, the camera will power down automatically to preserve battery power.
- If the Sony W55 is unable to capture still images or video, there could be several underlying problems to blame. For example, one potential problem could be that the camera's internal memory or Memory Stick Duo memory card is full. To resume shooting, you will need to delete unnecessary images and/or video clips or insert a new Memory Stick Duo. Alternatively, the problem may be that the Memory Stick Duo you are using has its write-protect switch in the locked position. To remedy this problem, put the switch in the record position. Another potential reason for being unable to capture images or video with the W55 is that you are using the wrong mode dial setting. To remedy this issue, set the mode dial to the filmstrip symbol when shooting video and set the dial to any other symbol besides the filmstrip when shooting still images.
- In some instances, you may have a problem viewing the images that you have captured with the Sony W55. Remedies for this problem include pressing the camera's "playback" button and unplugging the USB cable from the camera. When the camera is in USB mode, it cannot display images.
