- 1). Wet your rattail -- it's easier to separate the hair when it's damp. Use a fine-tooth comb to separate your rattail into three sections. Comb the sections down the length of the rattail to smooth out any tangles. Keep the sections separated between your fingers.
- 2). Take the far left section and bring it over the middle section so it's between the middle and right sections. Hold it in place with your finger.
- 3). Take the right section and overlap the middle section (originally the left section) so it lays between the two other sections. Bring the left section of hair to the middle.
- 4). Pull the woven sections to the top of the head to tighten the braid. Do this every weave cycle.
- 5). Fasten the end of the braid with a covered hair tie. Wrap the hair tie around the end of the braid as many times as it will go to secure the braid so it won't unravel. Spray your braided rattail with hairspray for extra hold.
