- 1). Analyze the design of the vintage Levi's jeans. In order to spot fake vintage Levi's, it is important that you know what the authentic Levi's look like. You can do this by visiting the Levis website: http://us.levi.com/home/index.jsp. The authentic vintage Levi's range in color from light to dark denim, are not overly form-fitting, have rivets on the front pockets, possess a tilted waistband, and have the characteristic Levi's logo.
- 2). Look at the color of the jeans. Vintage Levi's jeans only come in shades of denim. If the jeans are of a different color, then they are probably fake.
- 3). Look at the front pockets. Authentic Levi's have rivets at the front pockets. The right front pocket generally has four rivets, and the left front pocket usually has two rivets. If the rivets are not present, are not attached well, or are uneven, then the jeans are probably fake.
- 4). Look at the waistband of the jeans. Vintage Levi's have a waistband that dips down slightly at the front. This is done in order to provide the jeans with a casual appearance. If the jeans do not have a tilted waistband, then they are probably fake.
- 5). Examine the stitching of the jeans. True Levi's have even stitches. If the seams are uneven, or the stitches are falling apart, then the jeans are probably fake. Also, the back pockets have a characteristic stitching pattern that points down in the middle, and is concave down on either side. If this pattern is absent or uneven, then the jeans are probably fake.
- 6). Examine the back of the buttons. The style number is engraved on the back of the buttons of the Vintage Levi's. If the buttons do not have this engraving, or the engraving is poorly done, then the jeans are probably fake.
- 7). Look at the logo of the jeans. The characteristic Levi's logo for the vintage jeans is located over the right back pocket. It is typically square in shape. Most of the information on the logo is written in red ink, with the exception of the style number and size, which is written in black ink. The top of the logo has the words "Levi Strauss & CO.," the middle has "Original Riveted," the bottom has "Quality Clothing XX." The style number and sizing information is located beneath the words "Quality Clothing XX." If the logo is not present over the right back pocket, is poorly sewn, does not possess this information, or does not have the information written in the appropriate ink colors, then the jeans are probably fake.
