How to Report Unpaid Wages

    • 1). Lodge a formal request for your missing wages with your employer because sometimes lost pay is simply an accounting mistake. File a claim with your state government if your employer still refuses to pay you.

    • 2). Contact your state's Department of Labor; see list in Resources.

    • 3). Download and print your state's application for claiming your wages. Applications will differ slightly with each state.

    • 4). Fill out the application, including the requested information about you, the employer and the amount of money owed. Fill in your personal information, like full name and address, your employer's address and phone, the conditions of your employment such as job performed, when you were hired, quit or were fired and information about wages you already received and wages you are owed.

    • 5). Mail the application to your state's Department of Labor. The department will then process your claim and inform you of the next steps.
