Lets help you make lots of money! The fitness industry is full of opportunities even in today's financial state.
Really?!?! I hear you cry, yes really you just have to remember you have the key answers to so many peoples questions and problems.
People will always want to lose weight, tone up, need nutritional advice, guidance regarding exercise whether it be for health or vanity reasons.
Look outside your box Look around you what is there a need for? A very close friend of mine took her passion to work with kids saw her area was totally lacking in any form of youth dance or fitness and now she runs an incredibly successful and quickly growing youth dance program.
I work with a lot of weight management groups and also help new instructors that are new in the industry to set up their businesses and develop their ideas.
You are worth it Whenever I work with instructors setting up their new businesses this is something I can not emphasis enough.
There is working to gain experience and there is working like a crazy person trying to make ends meet.
STOP! Remember your worth, over the years I am sure like me you have paid out a fortune for your qualifications in-fact im sure we still do.
So be realistic with what you charge but remember you are needed and wanted by so many people and you do make a difference.
Go niche I had a great eye opening conversation with someone the other day which made me realise you need to let people know what you are about.
Do not assume people know of you or what you do because until they meet you they know nothing and sometimes if you teach multiple classes people still may not know what your are about so create a brand or a class that is specific to you! Get tough Now you have the ideas here comes the tough bit because this is where you might find now is not the right time or as a business its not going to make you money.
I am going to be honest I made very emotional driven business decisions and looking back now I can see why it didn't work and often question myself 'what were you thinking Jackie?!?!' as it had NO potential to make me money I just hoped it would eventually or my most annoying reflex which is to always say YES to classes that by the time I removed petrol NI and tax I would pretty much walk away with a big fat zero! On the other hand some decisions I made where I had to give my time for free took my career places I never thought was possible.
There is a fine line between giving your time away and being a part of something that could develop your profile and career.
So here are a few tips: Go back to basics look at what you are making and is it worth your time.
Think about your expenditure for club work: petrol, Nat ins, tax any insurances, music licenses.
Decide on your hourly rate and stick to do not under value yourself.
Have an action plan think ahead Be prepared for it to go right and be prepared for it to not work out as you had planned.
Be versatile with what you can teach but try and come up with a product people will associate with you Community classes are the way forward, I love my club classes but even more so since the credit crunch people are looking for cheaper ways to get fit without a gym membership so get out into your community.
Offer extras especially in your community classes such as DVDs members can do at home, weight management packages, promotional clothing these are all things you can charge for, it all adds up to extra "ching ching.
