  Some of the best childhood memories are made at summer camp. Whether you go away for an entire summer or just a few weeks, summer camp provides a nurturing environment in which to build lasting relationships and develop personalities. Alabama, with its rugged Appalachian foothills and sprawling state parks, is home to several summer camps for boys. Campers can choose from a variety of different camp focuses included religion, adventure, sports and science.
  
  

Alpine Camp

• High on a mountaintop in Mentone, Alabama sits the Alpine Camp for Boys. This Christian boys camp has tremendous pride in its college-aged staff. Several members of the all-male counseling staff were Alpine campers once themselves. Counselors are firmly committed to providing campers with a summer of activities and faith. Alpine Camp is situated on Lookout Mountain, a beautiful location filled with waterfalls, massive rocks and deep woods. Summer sessions are about two to three weeks long.

Camp Laney

• Also located on Lookout Mountain, Camp Laney is an all-boys camp with less of a religious emphasis but a strong commitment to traditional values. School-aged boys can choose either one- or two-weeks sessions. Campers participate in a wide variety of outdoor activities including horseback riding, ropes course, tennis, major sports, swimming, archery and riflery. Boys will also experience traditional camp activities such as campfires, skit night and dances with the neighboring girls’ camp. An out-of-camp trip is offered during each two-week session, rounding out the robust camping experience.

Space Camp

• If your son is more interested in science than sports, Space Camp is the perfect camp for him. During their six-day stay, campers learn what it’s like to train like an astronaut. Campers experience weightlessness, build rockets, and tumble in mercury axis trainers. Campers can choose a specialization in space, aviation or robotics. Space camp is the perfect place to nurture a student’s interest in an aerospace career.
