Reshma, a nine year old girl who happened to be my next door neighbor does not go to school. I found this thing very weird. Initially I used to think that she must be having some mental or physical disorder. But later when I started interacting with the angel faced little girl, I found her absolutely fine. She was just like the other children. But I was curious to know why she did not study in a school. One day I asked her why she did not go to school. She replied that her parents did not allow her to study.
And, when I started digging out the facts, I got to know that since she was a girl so she was deprived of going to any educational institution. And, there I understood why her other siblings who were boys went to school and she did not. Being a girl, it was depressing for me to know that in a country where the present president is a lady and in the same country a child is not allowed to acquire education only because she is a girl. And, it was more shameful because I stay in the same locality where such kinds of people stay.
People with the mindset of not sending their girl child to schools often forget that their thoughts can hurt a person's self-esteem. People force others to do things they want done for themselves. They never think that the other person can get affected mentally by their way of thinking and keeping the person. It has been found that many teenage girls have committed suicide out of depression. And, the reason of depression was gender discrimination.
Whereas if a girl child is sent to school stance, it shapes up her personality. Children look at gender relations because their schools look at such issues. Education broadens up the perspective of the children towards the world. The difference can easily be seen between a boy child who goes to school and the other who does not go to school. The one who acquires an education does not stay in favor of gender discrimination but the one who never went to the school sees girls as if they are their servants. Uneducated people consider females as next to animals but it is not the same case with educated people. Education has got the power to make people change their perception towards the world. In schools, children never feel discrimination on the basis of gender.
Though gender inequality is prevalent in most of the Middle-Eastern and South Asian countries the government has taken many steps to stop this way of discrimination. But the question is why the government should take such initiatives when your children are your responsibility? Nobody is responsible for giving birth to a baby girl. And, why don't such people think the other way round that there are instances of many females who have proved themselves to be more successful than men. By not providing education to a girl parents don't save their money but run into a loss because a girl can do many things when she grows up only if she has the weapon of education with her.
