8 Toronto Bars All Beer Lovers Should Visit

Love beer? Whether you’re visiting Toronto or you live here you’re in luck. Toronto is blessed with some seriously good beer bars and craft brewpubs to choose from. Here are a few well worth checking out.

Bar Volo

There’s no way to have a list of the best beer bars in Toronto and not include Bar Volo. The mecca for beer lovers has been in operation since 1985 and in that time has established itself as an undisputed authority on beer.

They’ve got 30 rotating regional beers on tap, as well as over 75 international beers in bottles, six rotating regional cask-conditioned ales and if you need to take a break from beer you can choose from over 60 bottles of bourbon and rye.

Bar Hop

Bar Hop has 36 craft beers tap with rotating selections and if that weren’t enough to attract some serious beer aficionados there’s also close to 100 beers in bottles and cans. There are seasonal beers, table bottles (large format bottles ideal for sharing) and even gluten-free beers and ciders to choose from. Or opt for a flight of beer to sample several options.

Bellwoods Brewery

Open since 2012, Bellwoods Brewery was instantly popular. The craft brew pub and retail store on Ossington brews many different types of beer but they rotate often so don’t expect to get the same thing every time you go. This is a great place to go to stay out of a beer rut and keep things interesting. If you like what you’re drinking visit the bottle shop next door to see if its available, but if not, there’s always something interesting to buy.

Indie Alehouse

Indie Alehouse is a small independent craft brewery In the Junction that makes and serves a unique selection of beers. They offer four flagship brands on tap or in their retail store which are available the majority of the time. In addition they offer a few rare releases that are only available once a year. You might also come across what they call “one hit wonders” that are a one-time only beers that likely won’t be back. The atmosphere here is laid back and there’s some good elevated pub grub on the menu.

Bryden’s

You’ll find Bryden’s in Bloor West Village a stone’s throw from Jane subway station. The cozy pub with a small front patio is the oldest pub in the area and a great destination for craft beer. In addition to the selection of beers you’ll find at Bryden’s every day they also have a rotating roster of special brews that vary according to season.

Get Well

Get Well, along a bar-heavy stretch of Dundas St. near Ossington has a rotating number of craft beers on tap usually numbering around a dozen. The relaxed space with arcade games in the back also boasts a large selection of bottles and cans.

The Only Café

The Only Café in Toronto’s east end has been serving up an extensive beer selection for over 30 years. No matter what you’re looking for, you’re likely to find it, or at least something that hits the spot among the 230 bottles and cans as well as the 25 local craft brews on tap.

Tallboys

As the name would suggest, Tallboys is a bar that focuses on beer, but not just any beer. The Koreatown pub serves Ontario craft beer exclusively, on tap and in tallboy cans. The friendly space also has a menu full of well-executed pub favourites like burgers, nachos and sandwiches.
