Have you ever thought about managing your child's viewing habits on television? If not, then it is a good time to start. Having your HD television on constantly can possibly inhibit your child's healthy development in his or her early years. Viewing too much television can prevent a child from creativity, exercise, and their ability to make wise choices about food. If a child is constantly bombarded with unhealthy food commercials, violent programs, and doesn't get off of their bottoms for hours at a time, then what kind of child are you creating? A kid that has inappropriate aggressive behavior, one that is obese due to lack of exercise and unhealthy food, and one that cannot think for her or hisself. It doesn't have to be this way. Instead a parent should develop strong satellite TV managing abilities from when your children are young. Here is some advice in helping you keep the reigns while allowing your children to watch TV without becoming uncreative blobs:
* In order to have the control you need as a parent to limit what or how much your children watch TV it is important to start when they are young. Beginning to manage your children's TV habits at a young age will give you the initial control which will prevent future arguments about who is the boss of your high definition TV. Children are very sensitive to change so it is good to start managing your television when they are young so it is not a shock when you tell them to stop watching a show, or something else along those lines.
* Television should be a reward for doing other tasks, so make sure to limit the time actually spent on TV, especially when it is a school night. Many kids need to focus on their homework and it is difficult when the television is constantly playing in the background or in front of them while trying to focus on school work. Even if you as a parent have to watch your sports, try to do it when the child isn't around so that you are not contributing to their problem.
* One of the issues of having a television is where it is located. You can prevent a child's focus on the television if it is not in the same room where you and your family spend most of your time together. If it is in a room, separated from your family circle, then this can help dissipate the temptation to keep it on all the time.
* Do not put a television in your child's room. If a TV is located in your child's room then you completely lose control of which programs they are watching and how much time is spent on the television.
* Make sure your kids watch an eclectic variety of programs. The television can actually be a great place for learning if the appropriate shows are taken advantage of. There are many shows that include science and history that can help your child learn. Make sure to keep shows that are educational in your child's periphery. Even with the NFL Sunday Ticket, a child can learn a thing or two about sportsmanship.
* Don't let the television just play in the background even though you are not watching it. This can be a distraction even if the child is not paying attention and it makes a child feel like it is good to have the television on even if they aren't watching it.
