How to Make Double Rod Pocket Curtains

    • 1). Measure the circumference of the top rod; add 2 inches to this measurement and divide in half. This is the fabric allowance required for the top pocket. Repeat the calculation for the second rod. Add the two pocket allowances together.

    • 2). Measure the window width to be covered, add 4 inches to the measurement and double this figure for the total width of fabric required for the curtain. Measure the length of the area to be covered and add the total pocket allowances, 1 inch for turn on the top hem and 6 inches for the bottom hem.

    • 3). Cut the fabric panel to the width and length required. Sew panels together If one panel of fabric is not wide enough.

    • 4). Lay the curtain panel flat on your worktable, right side of the fabric toward the table surface. Turn the bottom hem up 3 inches and press on the fold. Turn the hem 3 inches again to create a double hem, and press on the new fold. Stitch across the width of the panel, close to the upper edge of the hem.

    • 5). Turn the outside edge in 1 inch and press on the fold. Turn again to create a 1-inch double hem and press. Stitch on the inside edge, from the top of the curtain to the bottom.

    • 6). Turn the top of the curtain panel down 1 inch and press. Turn, again, the total amount of the pocket allowances and press on the fold. Stitch across the width of the panel, close to the folded edge that is away from the top of the panel.

    • 7). Measure down from the top of the panel the measurement of the top rod pocket allowance and stitch across the entire panel of fabric at this measurement.
