These pelicans, like a trio of wise, tux-wearing birds, were photographed at The Entrance on the Central Coast of New South Wales.
The Entrance calls itself the "Pelican Capital of Australia."
You'll find pelicans all along the Australin coast. In New Zealand subfossil pelican bones have been unearthed but, unless this has changed, the only live pelicans in New Zealand are to be found in Wellington Zoo.
Pelicans are one of the largest Australian birds. With wing spans of up to 2.5 metres, they can fly as far as Indonesia, New Guinea and Fiji.
The Australian pelican is said to have the longest beak of any bird in the world.
