Full-Face

• 1). Choose a picture to use as a design, or sketch out a pattern for your desired design.
  
  Paint simpler designs such as a clown or pet face freehand, if you choose not to use a pattern.
  
  
• 2). Coat the child's face with a thin layer of cold cream to provide for easier removal of the face paints later. Keep cold cream away from eyes, or spread it very thin around the eyes. Dab excess cold cream from the face with a tissue to prevent paint from smearing easily.
  
  
• 3). Spread a thin base layer of the background color of paint over the entire face. Use hands or a paint brush to spread the base coat onto the face.
  
  
• 4). Paint other large areas of the face with a new color. Cover the next largest area over the base coat. Work in order of layers and colors, such as orange over yellow to prepare for a tiger's face. Continue to paint layers onto the face to create the desired effect.
  
  
• 5). Create tiger stripes, clown features or other more intricate parts of the design. Layer colors as desired.
  
  
• 6). Use darker colors to outline certain features, if you wish. Outline clown or animal eyes,
  
  super hero designs and features or sport team logos or letters. Put the fine-lined finishing touches on the child's painted face.
  
  

Cheeks

• 1). Apply a thin coating of cold cream to the child's cheek. Do one cheek at a time so the cold cream doesn't dry out or soak into the skin before painting on that area.
  
  
• 2). Place a stencil against the child's cheek. Paint the entire stencil area with a thin background coating of paint. Remove the stencil if you wish to paint the remainder of the design freehand. Leave the stencil against the cheek if you need the pattern for intricate parts of a design.
  
  
• 3). Paint the remainder of the design on the child's face. Use a dark color of paint and a narrow brush to outline any desired areas of the finished design.
