- Sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs Foundation (IAFCF) and the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation, the Heather Westphal Memorial Fund Scholarship honors Heather Westphal, who worked for the IAFCF before passing away in 2008. The scholarship, first awarded in 2009, helps women pursue degrees in fire science to become firefighters. The amount of the scholarship varies each year depending on how much funding is raised, with $1,000 awarded in 2009. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree at any accredited college or university in the United States.
- Available to students of Portland Community College in Oregon, the Women and Ethnic Minorities in Fire Science Scholarship receives its funding from the Portland Community College Foundation. One scholarship is awarded each year to a female or minority student enrolled in the Fire Protection Technology program at the school. Open to students in both the first and second year of the associate degree program, students must complete at least nine credit hours or more per term to be eligible for the award. Applicants can find the scholarship application online through the Portland Community College Foundation website.
- Named for Candice E. Tylke, the first female graduate from Madison Area Technical College who passed away in 2008, the Candice E. Tylke Scholarship awards $1,500 (in 2011) to female firefighters. The scholarship receives funding from the estate of Tylke, who worked as a firefighter for the city of Beloit. Students must be enrolled in the Fire and Emergency Response Management program, have a 2.75 grade point average and have prior experience in fire science or paramedics. Eligible candidates can find an application online, which must be submitted with a personal statement describing why they are eligible for the award.
- The Maki Nishi Memorial Scholarship is open to female students in the Fire Science program at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Along with being a woman, an applicant must be enrolled for at least nine credit hours a term and must have completed at least 24 program credits to qualify. In 2011, students must also have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher to receive the $500 scholarship good for one year. Applications can be found online at the Milwaukee Area Technical College website or in the Financial Aid Office. Students must turn applications into the Department of Technical and Applied Sciences by June 1 each year.
