Copywriting is a tough business.
When you're competing with the likes of Michel Fortin and others, you really have your work cut out for you when trying to get work, especially when you're first starting out.
I know.
I was once one of the new guys in town too...
and it wasn't fun.
The big boys have their forever clients who wouldn't dream of changing horses.
So you have to hunt out new blood...
people who maybe don't have $15,000 to shell out for sales copy.
But how do you get them? Remember, you have no reputation to speak of.
Well, this article is going to give you some great tips on getting work that will have people flocking for your services.
Probably the best tip in the world is to get testimonials for your work.
Now, I know what you're thinking.
How are you going to get testimonials when you can't get clients? Well, there is one sure fire way.
Yes, you're going to have to bite the bullet and some income in the process.
What you do is offer your services for a certain number of clients for free.
You do this in exchange for a testimonial if your sales page does well for them.
So you better make sure you know your stuff.
If you're good at what you do, your copy will convert and you'll get those testimonials.
Another great way to get work when you're first starting out is to offer other services in combination with the sales copy.
If you're an expert in traffic generation, as I am, you can offer to bring traffic to their site as well either by doing the work yourself or by giving them specific instructions on how to go about driving traffic to your client's site.
The more services you offer, at least to start, the more chance you have of getting new clients.
If your work all around is good, you may end up getting clients for more than just writing sales letters.
The key is finding what you're good at in addition to writing.
Finally, for these initial customers, you can offer lifetime discounts on your copy.
This will be a great incentive for these people to stay with you.
Naturally, if you did a good job for them, they'll probably retain your services anyway, but by offering discounts, you're almost guaranteed to keep them around.
While it's not easy to start a copywriting business, it can be done.
People do it all the time.
The above tips should give you a good head start.
