- 1). Consume warm liquids and throat lozenges to ease tonsil pain. Gargling with warm, salty water may alleviate the discomfort of tonsillitis or tonsil stones, a disorder in the throat that forms when trapped debris and bacteria hardens in the tonsil's pockets.
- 2). Consider taking antibiotics prescribed by a doctor. Antibiotics can be used to treat tonsil pain; however, determine the cause of underlying tonsil pain and treat accordingly. The use of antibiotics can have undesired side effects and should be used only as directed by a physician.
- 3). Investigate surgery. When tonsil pain is chronic due to tonsil stones, surgical removal may be necessary. A doctor will be able to perform this procedure using a local numbing agent. Patients who undergo surgical removal from tonsillitis or tonsil stones will not need to have general anesthesia.
- 4). Talk to a doctor about naturally curing tonsil pain by dislodging tonsil stones with picks or swabs.
- 5). Stay hydrated. Tonsil pain can discourage swallowing, therefore discouraging the drinking of fluids, essential to getting well. Drink warm water to replenish the body and to speed up recovery. Water helps to purge toxins from the body that can worsen tonsil pain and illnesses associated with tonsillitis.
- 6). Naturally treat the tonsils with special herbs that can alleviate pain. Garlic and ginger have chemicals and oils that decrease inflammation and aid in pain reduction. Lemon juice and honey can alleviate pain with their antiseptic properties. Make a herbal concoction with one teaspoon of fresh ginger juice or crushed garlic, one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice in a cup of warm water. Gargle to relieve tonsil pain.
