- 1). Start with a very simple trick, the Bunny Hop. Make sure your feet are firmly on your scooter’s deck and you are balanced. Give the scooter a little push so it is coasting slowly. Now, bend your knees and jump—not really high, just a few inches. At the same time, pull the scooter up with your hands so the deck stays on your feet. Ideally, land with two feet on the deck and twp wheels on the ground. It might be a bit of a hard landing.
- 2). Do a wheelie. You see motorcycle stunt riders do it all the time, pull their front wheel up and ride on the back wheel alone. Scoot as far back on the scooter as you can. Start coasting slowly. Now shift your weight down and back while you pull up on your handlebars and raise the front wheel off the ground. This is a bit more difficult on a scooter than it is on a bicycle or a motorcycle; it is easier if you install wheelie bars on your scooter.
- 3). Try a more advanced kind of jump. Practice a couple of Bunny Hops and work at making a stable landing. On your next pass, begin your Bunny Hop, and once you are airborne, pull your knees up even further so they are not touching the deck any longer. Try to set the deck down first then land your feet on the deck. This takes some practice, and you probably ought to expect a wreck or two.
- 4). Get good with these simple tricks, then make them bigger and better—do splits in the air, swing your scooter around before you land—you can do all kinds of crazy tricks on a scooter.
