Snow Ski Wax -You Should Know

The proper ski maintenance is one of the important thing followed in the  snow skiing. Thus skiing your way down in the slopes on your newly-waxed skis is more challenging task. Thus whenever you find time, try to wax your skis. The two important purposes of waxing are, first it makes the ski glide better on the snow and the second will help you to have a stronger grip while skiing  your way down on the snow.

The different weather conditions, the snow type and the skiing style determines the type of the ski wax to use. Basically, there are three types of ski wax . They are,  the base, the grip and the glide ski waxes.

The Base Wax:
Generally, the Professional skiers will explain to protect your new skis with the base-conditioning wax. This type is usually used as a primer for the grip wax. It is the common ski wax used by the amateur skier. Usually, the base wax is a tinned product. The process of applying includes some important steps. At first,  it should be heated with an iron then rubbed into the base of the ski. At last an aerosol may also can be sprayed to your skis.

The Grip Wax:
This sticky ski wax  is usually used in the cross-country skiing. It is applied in the center of the ski because it is used as a grip while skiing. There are two types of grip wax:
  • Hard Kick -  Generally it is also tinned and  commonly used for the new snow. Normally, it is used directly into the skis until the wax is layered into a thin film.
  • Klisters – This type of wax are in tube form and is stickier than the other types and it is used in the icy surface.

The Glide Wax:
The advanced skiers could easily understand the purpose of each type of ski wax. Most of the people use the same type of wax always. Only the  advanced skiers use this type of glide wax and is also called as the general-purpose glide wax. However, the experienced skiers use the color coding for this type of wax to attain an optimum performance skiing in the snow.
  • Red - It is commonly used during the slushy conditions.
  • Blue -  This is for hard-crusted and dry snow.
  • Violet – Then it works best on a mushy snow.
  • Green -  It is used on a powdery, cold and dry snow.

Although it is generally advised to glide wax frequently. Then you can opt your individual type or style of skiing, can  perform in the snow but proper preparation of your skis is  very important. The important  requirement includes the waxing.  This is not only done for better performance but also for your own safety.

The Snow skis are a very good entertainment and you cannot just afford them without care. If you are an enjoying snow skier, the first thing you have to consider is to take care of your own ski. Because this is the only thing which goes between your feet and the snow.
Thus the important thing is to maintain your own ski and try to wax it on your own.
