I Cannot Get My Norstar Intercom to Work

    Lack of Dial Tone

    • If you are trying to use your intercom system but can't get a dial tone when you press whatever key you've selected as your "intercom" button, then there may have been a change in your key system. Perform a key check by dialing "*0" and then selecting your "intercom" key. If this reveals that this key is no longer performing as the intercom function, reprogram your system so that it is.

    Unwanted Paging

    • Usually the intercom system is set to a default "paging" option; if you don't wish to be bothered by the paging tones, you will need to reprogram this feature of your phone system. To do so, dial FEATURE 0, followed by the intercom button of your particular system. Press the RLS button and enter in your respective feature password; this should bring you to a screen showing both "terminals" and "sets." Press "enter," type in your extension, and press "enter" again. Press the "next" button, followed by dialing CAPABILITIES. Scroll through the options until you find the "page zone" feature and change it till it says "none." Press "RLS" to save your changes to the system.

    Calling Another System

    • Some Norstar intercom users still have difficulty when attempting to call another within the same intercom system. To do this, make sure that the hands-free answer-back feature is turned on for the other phone. Next dial "Voice 66" and the intercom number of the person you wish to contact.

    Changing the Intercom Caller ID

    • Bring yourself to the "programming" option by dialing in your feature key and password. This should lead you to the "terminal and sets" screen, where you can now program your intercom. Enter in the extension number for the caller ID you wish to change. Press the "show" key followed by the "next" key until the option for "name" shows up on the screen. Now press the "chng" soft key and enter the name via the dial pad. Press the release key when you are finished reprogramming the phone.
