During the winter months, families that visit the New England state of Maine have access to winter sports such as skiing and snowmobiling. Much of the land in Maine consists of large recreational areas, such as Baxter State Park and the Allagash Wilderness. Popular lakes such as Millinocket and Sebasticook offer opportunities for ice fishing during the winter months. Nearly all of Maine's attractions are suitable for children and are situated near lodging facilities.

This park has approximately 35,000 acres and offers over 125 trails and paths for cross-country skiing, snowmobile riding and snowshoeing. Bal Harbor, less than 10 minutes from the park, features restaurants and lodging accommodations for families that are visiting the park. Guided tours provided by the park's rangers are available.
