How to Build a Speaker Box Enclosure

    • 1). Determine the size of the speaker you will be putting inside the box. Allow for about a foot in your box to make room for the speakers and wires. Use 1/2-inch hardwood boards to make your box. Do not use plywood or particle board. The sound waves created inside the box will shake non-hardwoods apart.

    • 2). Use a large wood clamp to hold the wood piece in place on the radial arm and cut four 2- by 2-foot pieces of hardwood. Use a hand belt sander to smooth the entire surface of each piece, including the edges.

    • 3). Use a metal vise equipped with rubber wood protectors and hold one piece of finished wood in the vise. Use a claw hammer and nails no longer or larger than finish nails, making sure they are long enough to penetrate through both wood pieces.

    • 4). Use the same procedure to attach the other side of the box. Cut a piece of 1/16-inch press board and and use finish nails to attach it the the back of one end of the box you have created. Use a jig saw to cut an oval in the middle of the 1/16-inch press board for attaching wires.

    • 5). After installing your electronic components, cut a piece of crossed wire to cover the front of the box. This completes the building process. An optional step is to use sound buffering material to coat the outer surface for better sound projecting.
