Water damage is bad enough on its own.
The extent of the damage it causes are vast from warped wood, stained walls and carpets, it can even force certain materials to become week and disintegrate, the damp smell that often comes with it is not brilliant either.
But none of these can be as bad as the damage that mold can cause if allowed to run free within your home.
Mold can grow anywhere even in the cleanest of houses, all it requires is a small damp patch and it can get a foothold on as little as 24 hours.
It is no surprise them that homes or buildings that experience water damage often end up finding themselves having to deal with some form of mold growth.
Especially if the problem was not dealt with quickly.
The major danger with mold is that the mold growth could be black mold.
Black mold is a highly toxic substance and has even been linked to deaths in small children.
It causes many forms of respiratory problems and various other health risks.
Don't worry, removing mold doesn't require and specialized skill, just a bit of know how and careful planning.
If the mold has begun to contaminant behind your walls and ceilings however I highly recommend calling in the professionals.
If you miss the slightest bit the mold will come back for revenge and you hard work will have been wasted.
Firstly you need to verify the extent of the damage.
Remove small sections of possibly infected areas and check for mold.
When you believe you have found all the mold there is seal the area off the help prevent a spread of mold.
Dry the area if you haven't already.
Remove any solid objects that are for removal in heavy-duty plastic sealed bags.
This stops and further spread of the mold spores.
If possible throw them out the closest window.
Wash the mold with a soap based product this helps remove the bulk of the mold with general ease.
Follow this up with a spry of disinfected of not only the contaminated areas but also all the surrounding areas to stop any mold that as spread taking hold.
I recommend keeping the mold slightly moist when scrubbing.
Dry mold becomes airborne very easily and will make spread much more likely.
Finally repair any damage and bin or wash separately all tools or clothing used in the clean up.
