Safely Traveling With Pets

If you like to travel, and you have a pet, you may want to travel with your pet.
This can cut down on costs of boarding your pets, or having someone take care of them while you are gone.
If you are going to travel with your pet in a car, there are something's you may want to do to ensure your safety, and your pet's safety.
You always want to make sure that your pet is secured while in the car.
If you have an accident while your pet is unsecure in the car, it can get severely hurt, and act as a projectile in the car causing damage to passengers.
So to keep your pet safe and you safe, you should take the proper steps to secure and restrain your pet during car rides.
There are several different methods for restraining your pet while in the car.
One of these is by securing your pet with a safety harness.
Most of these harnesses go around the animal's chest and buckle into your normal seat belt buckle.
These harnesses allow your pet to look out the window, sit, lay down, and even walk around a little bit.
Another option is a pet barrier if you drive a minivan or SUV that is normally wire and keeps your pet in the cargo area.
Make sure that it is installed properly and securely.
There still may be a chance that your pet may get hurt in the event of an accident.
You can also put them in a crate so they have their own secure space.
If you do, be sure to secure the crate itself too, if not your pet may get hurt if you do have an accident.
Those are just a few options for how to secure your pet.
Never leave your animal in the car unattended, during the summer and winter, temperatures inside a car can become extreme and can result in heat stroke or hypothermia for your pet.
While traveling with your pet, there are something's that you should not go without.
You always want to have your pet's collar with the proper ID tags, and a leash.
Also have their medical records on hand while traveling.
You never know what may happen while on a trip, and if you stay in a hotel some place won't allow your pet without the proper shots or collar and leash.
If your pet takes medication, be sure to have the proper amount of medication for your trip.
Of course, bring food.
It doesn't matter if you are going to be in a place where you might be able to food, you should always have enough food for your pet.
What if plans change or you fall behind schedule and wind up in the middle of nowhere with no dog food? You will also need to bring plenty of water for your pet, you can buy collapsible food and water bowls at your local pet store.
Making sure you have these things ready and available, you will be able to pack up your family, animals and all, and start your travels.
Just be sure to take the proper safety steps to ensure that your pets will also have a safe and happy trip.
You wouldn't let your child go a trip not wearing a seat belt, without food or water, so why would you let your pet? Stop ever now and then on long drives to let your pets out to stretch their legs, do their business, and maybe get a quick drink or bite to eat.
