Croatian passport holders must obtain a visa before they are allowed to enter the United States. The visa provides verification to the United States government that you are a good citizen of Croatia, that you intend on leaving the United States once you have completed your stay, and that you are in good health. - All Croatian passport holders that wish to apply for a visa must complete the electronic visa application known as the DS-160. This is the Non-Immigrant Visa Application form. It will ask questions regarding why you wish to come to the United States, your citizenship information, passport information, and all of your contact information. The application can be obtained in both English and Montenegrin. As of June 2010, the Embassy website did not house a Croatian translation of the application. When you complete the visa application, make sure to print the conformation page, which will need to be submitted at a later date.
- When you complete the visa application form you will have to upload a current passport photo (taken within the last 6 months) with the application. This digital photo will be kept with your visa application and may be utilized by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Department of State, and the Department of Labor when processing your application.
- Additional documentation that you will be required to obtain will depend on the visa that you are applying for. For a student visa, you will have to show acceptance into a American University; for a work visa, you may have to supply a work contract. Generally all visas will require you to provide proof of financial stability while in the United States, a health clearance, a penal clearance, and proof of ties back to your home country.
- All Croatian passport holders will have to complete an interview with an American immigration officer before they will be allowed to enter the country. An appointment will have to be made for the interview. Interviews can be scheduled online on the embassy website. When you attend the interview, you will submit the conformation page of the visa application and any additional documentation that you may need. At the interview it is your responsibility to ensure with the immigration officer that you intend to return to Croatia and that you have sufficient ties to the country.
- Each non-immigrant visa is issued to the Croatian passport holder with an expiration date. The Croatian passport holder must apply for an extension, an immigrant visa, or leave the country before the expiration date. If you stay past your visa, you will be subject to deportation and be barred from re-entering the United States for 3 to 10 years.
