Valley of Fire State Park is the biggest and oldest state park in Nevada, first opened in 1935. Enjoy the scenic views of the Mojave Desert and the red sandstone rock formations for which the park is named. Petrified wood and ancient Indian petroglyphs attract hikers, bikers, campers and photography enthusiasts. Bring along a picnic and make sure to stop at the visitor center with interpretive displays and exhibits. The park is free to enter and open to the public all year long.

This region has an intriguing history and the museum documents the different time periods that have played a role in Mesquite's development. Located in the center of town, the museum features Native American artifacts, exhibits from the pioneer era and modern memorabilia such as the first slot machine ever used in the valley and early telephones. Entrance to the museum is free. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday.

The desert canyon landscape provides a scenic backdrop for championship quality golf courses. Play a round at the Palmer Golf Course, part of the Oasis Golf Club in Mesquite. This excellent course was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer. Try the Wolf Creek Golf Club, also in Mesquite. It was voted No. 14 in GolfWorld's inaugural 2009 Reader's Choice Awards for top public courses in the United States. Play the Palms Club, the very first course established in Mesquite. The popularity of this course helped spark the golf industry boom in the area. Other courses in Mesquite include Falcon Ridge and the Casablanca Golf Club.
